Indre By, the old city centre, puts Nyhavn’s coloured townhouses, Stroget’s shopping streets and Christiansborg Palace within easy walking distance, and suits a stay built around first-time sightseeing. Vesterbro trades some of that centrality for the former Meatpacking District’s restaurants and bars, close to Tivoli Gardens and Copenhagen Central Station. Christianshavn sits across the harbour with its own 17th-century canals, houseboats and a more residential, slower pace.
None of the three is a wrong choice; naming the priority — landmarks within walking distance, a restaurant-led neighbourhood, or a quieter canal-side base — before booking tends to produce a more comfortable stay than assuming any one district is simply “Copenhagen”.
