Bring the leadership room somewhere useful

A leadership meeting earns its travel time when the setting lets people think, decide and speak differently.

The starting point

Bringing colleagues from different cities together can be expensive in time and attention. The purpose therefore needs to be clear: a strategy decision, a reset, a difficult conversation, a planning cycle or a moment to build trust across a distributed group.

The location is not decoration. Travel pattern, meeting environment, confidentiality, the evening programme and the departure sequence all influence whether the group leaves with more clarity than it arrived with.

What gives it shape

The parts worth considering together

A place for the real conversation

The room, privacy and interval around the agenda should be chosen for the work that cannot happen on a video call.

One group, several journeys

Different origins and arrival times need a fair, workable route into the first session.

The time between sessions

A meal, walk or small shared experience can create space for relationships without becoming forced team-building.

A practical example

A possible beginning: an annual leadership meeting in a different city

The city may change each year, but the decision framework stays consistent: arrivals that protect the opening session, a base that keeps everyone together when useful, and enough unstructured time for the conversations that do not fit into an agenda.

A considered request
