Amsterdam · experience
Mix, cook and fill your own stroopwafel by hand at a small workshop behind Albert Cuyp Market — one eaten warm, one to take away.
The experience
The stroopwafel — two thin waffles sealed around warm caramel syrup — has been a Dutch speciality since the 18th century, and this workshop teaches the whole process by hand rather than showing it once: mixing the dough, cooking it on a traditional iron, and drizzling the syrup between the layers before the wafers set.
It runs in a small workshop space tucked behind Albert Cuyp Market, one of Amsterdam’s best-known street markets, worth arriving a little early to enjoy. Two XL stroopwafels come out of the session — one eaten on the spot with coffee or tea, one to take away.
It is a short, easy addition to a day rather than a full activity on its own — 45 minutes, suited to nearly any traveller, and a natural pairing with a market visit or the food tour above.
