The experience
The Red Dunes by 4x4, with the option to stay for a full desert-camp evening.
This is Dubai’s classic desert afternoon, built around dune bashing in an air-conditioned 4x4 with a trained driver, then sandboarding down the same slopes. A stop at the Red Dunes adds a camel ride and a chance to meet the camp’s falcons, with Arabic coffee, tea and dates served in a shaded tent.
The base tour runs four hours and returns guests to their hotel after the dunes. Upgrading to the seven-hour option extends the afternoon into the Al Khayma Desert Camp for henna painting, shisha, an Arabian horse show, traditional Yola dance and falconry, and a BBQ dinner with vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes as the sun goes down.
Quad biking can be added at an extra fee for guests who want a more active stop on the way out, though it runs at the rider’s own risk and is not covered by the operator’s insurance.
