Lima · experience
A guided visit to Casa de Aliaga, built in 1536 and still owned by the same family — one of the oldest continuously inhabited houses in the Americas.
The experience
An official house guide leads a short visit through the colonial courtyards, carved wooden balconies and period rooms of Casa de Aliaga, built on a pre-Columbian site for conquistador Jeronimo de Aliaga in the same year Lima itself was founded.
Unlike Lima’s museums, the house is still a private family residence, giving the visit an unusually intimate view of more than four centuries of continuous occupation by the same family, through earthquake damage, colonial rule and the modern city growing up around it.
