The experience
A 50-minute fado performance in an intimate venue, with the songs explained as they’re sung.
Male and female fado singers perform with traditional Portuguese and classical guitar in one of two intimate venues — a stone-walled setting near the Sé cathedral, or a tavern-style room in Baixa — with the same standard of performance at either.
The musicians introduce the history of fado, its instruments and the meaning behind each song between numbers, so the UNESCO-recognised art form comes across even without following the Portuguese lyrics directly. A glass of Port wine or Moscatel is included.
