Buckingham Palace State Rooms & Changing of the Guard

A 2.5-hour royal London experience: an expert-led walk to the day’s changing ceremony, then a pre-reserved Buckingham Palace State Rooms visit with the official audio guide.

About 2.5 hoursShared guided groupFrom €84

The experience

A royal London walk, a realistic view of the changing ceremony and a timed State Rooms visit during Buckingham Palace’s short public opening.

This combines two different experiences that are often confused. First comes a guide-led walk through Royal London, using the best available viewing position for the day’s Changing of the Guard or Horse Guards. Then the group has a pre-reserved entry to Buckingham Palace’s State Rooms, which are open to visitors only for a limited part of the year.

The guide provides the history, the route and a grounded sense of what is unfolding around the ceremony. Inside the Palace, the visit changes pace: guests use the official audio guide and explore the State Rooms independently, including selected works and objects from the Royal Collection.

The ceremony itself is controlled by British authorities, not the tour operator. It can be rescheduled, altered or cancelled at short notice, including for weather. The honest value here is the informed royal-London route and pre-booked Palace access when the State Rooms season is open — not an unconditional promise of one fixed parade.

Who this suits

A good choice when it matches the way you want to use the city.

  • First-time London visitors who want a defined royal-history morning or afternoon rather than trying to decode the changing schedule alone.
  • Guests travelling during the annual State Rooms opening season who would value timed Palace entry after a guide-led Westminster walk.
  • Travellers comfortable standing and walking outdoors, then visiting the Palace independently with an audio guide.

Before you go

A few essentials for the day.

  • Buckingham Palace State Rooms are open to visitors only for a limited annual period. Check the live calendar before arranging the rest of a London stay around this activity.
  • The Foot Guards ceremony does not run on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday. On those days the supplier offers a Westminster walking route; viewing the Horse Guards may be possible but is not guaranteed.
  • British authorities can change, delay or cancel the ceremony because of weather or operational circumstances, sometimes only on the morning itself. The supplier substitutes a Westminster walk if this happens.
  • The supplier lists the route as unsuitable for wheelchair users and guests with mobility impairments. Cameras and baby strollers are not permitted; wear comfortable shoes for standing and walking.
  • The supplier offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour. Reconfirm the current Palace, ceremony and cancellation conditions for the booked date before paying.
