The experience

A full day out of the city, through three separate ways of soaking in Tolantongo’s thermal waters.

A long day trip north into the Hidalgo highlands, built around three distinct stages at Tolantongo: the warm "pocitos" thermal pools, a swim in the turquoise river, and a walk into the Grutas de Tolantongo caves to bathe beneath the waterfalls inside.

The 3+ hour drive each way includes a breakfast stop in Actopan and a supply stop in San Cristóbal; lunch is ordered in advance and eaten riverside on the return leg, before the long drive back to Mexico City.

Who this suits

A good choice when it matches the way you want to use the city.

  • Travellers happy to trade a very long day (pickup before 6am, return around 8pm) for a genuinely striking natural setting.
  • Anyone who wants hot springs, a river and cave waterfalls in a single outing rather than choosing one.
  • Families — kids are welcomed, and an optional zipline is available on site for a small extra fee.
