New York · experience
Julie Taymor’s six-time Tony-winning staging of the 1994 Disney classic at the Minskoff Theatre, with Elton John and Tim Rice’s Oscar-winning score.
The experience
Disney’s The Lion King has run on Broadway since 1997, and remains one of the most acclaimed stagings in the theatre’s history — Julie Taymor’s puppetry and set design bring the African savanna to the Minskoff Theatre stage, with Pride Rock rising out of the floor and giraffes, birds and gazelles moving through the aisles.
The story follows Simba’s journey from cub to king, set to Elton John and Tim Rice’s Oscar-winning score alongside new compositions written for the stage. It won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and has stayed close to sold out for most of its run.
