Communism history & nuclear bunker tour

A 2-hour-20-minute guided walk through Prague’s communist-era landmarks, finishing in an authentic Cold War bunker four floors below ground — a focused modern-history experience rather than a museum visit.

About 2 hours 20 minutesMaximum 26 travellersFrom €38

The experience

A modern Prague history walk whose final hour is spent four floors below the city.

This is not a general “underground Prague” outing. It follows the experience of communist Czechoslovakia through city-centre sites before travelling to an authentic Cold War nuclear bunker, where the final hour gives the period a physical scale that a street walk alone cannot.

The provider’s route touches the former StB holding cells, the Velvet Revolution Memorial, Národní třída and Wenceslas Square, then uses public transport to reach the bunker at Parukářka. A live English-speaking guide supplies the connective history, rather than asking guests to interpret the sites from signs or an audio guide.

It suits travellers who want Prague’s twentieth century alongside its medieval centre, and who are comfortable with an active, occasionally confined setting. It is not an entry ticket to the Museum of Communism, and it is not a comfortable fit for every mobility or health requirement.

Pickup and drop-off

Not included — meet independently in Old Town and make your own onward plans after the supplier-listed end point.

A local guide showing a small group an unmarked paper plan in a restrained concrete civil-defence shelter beneath Prague.
The bunker is more than a dramatic finale: the descent gives ordinary civil-defence infrastructure — corridors, pipes, provisions and planning — a human scale after the city-centre history walk.

Who this suits

A good choice when it matches the way you want to use the city.

  • History-minded visitors who want the Prague of the Cold War and Velvet Revolution explained in the places where those stories unfolded.
  • Guests who value a guide-led narrative and a genuinely underground civil-defence space over a conventional museum visit.
  • Adults and older children able to walk at a moderate pace, use public transport and manage the bunker stairs and enclosed conditions.

A few essentials for the day.

  • The provider lists the activity as not wheelchair or stroller accessible and asks for a moderate level of physical fitness. Expect walking, public transport, stairs and uneven bunker conditions.
  • This is not recommended for pregnant travellers, people with serious heart conditions or anyone with claustrophobia. It is not available for children under six, according to the provider.
