How this ride works

A day in the sandstone, with the driving done for you.

Two hours north of Prague, where the Elbe leaves Bohemia for Saxony, the river has cut a canyon through sandstone, and the forest above it is full of rock towers, gorges and natural arches. The largest of them, the Pravčická Gate, is the emblem of the Bohemian Switzerland National Park.

This is the one ride in our Prague collection that is built around a walk, and it is not the right choice for anyone who cannot or would rather not walk uphill on a forest path. For those who can, it is the most memorable day of them all. Nine hours door to door leave around five in the park: about an hour and a half on foot to the gate and back, time at the top, lunch in Hřensko, and the river road on the way home.

Standard ride rules

  • The nine-hour service is counted door to door, from collection in Prague to your return, and includes the drive of about two hours each way.
  • Choose all, some or none of the suggested stops, and divide the time in Bohemian Switzerland as you wish. The driver waits, moves the car between the stops where that helps, and keeps the return on time.
  • The service begins and ends at a hotel or another address within Prague. Airport and railway-station connections are not part of this ride and are arranged as a separate transfer.
  • The driver provides collection, private transport, waiting and the nearest practical drop-off and pick-up point for each stop. They are local and can offer practical suggestions, but they are not a licensed tour guide and do not provide guided services inside sights.

Illustrative stop sequence

What the ride can hold.

01 · Confirmed point

Your chosen meeting point

Meet at your hotel or another address within Prague. The driver confirms the most practical collection point before the ride, and the drive to Bohemian Switzerland takes about two hours.

02 · Chosen with you

Pravčická Gate

The largest natural sandstone arch in Europe, high in the forest above Hřensko. It cannot be reached by car: the driver leaves you at the Tři prameny trailhead on the road above the village, and from there the gate is about two kilometres on a forest path, steadily uphill, 30 to 45 minutes each way. There is an entry fee at the top for the viewpoints beside the arch.

03 · Chosen with you

Hřensko Village

The village at the mouth of the Kamenice gorge, where the stream meets the Elbe: timbered houses squeezed between sandstone walls, at the lowest point in the Czech Republic. The natural place for a late lunch after the walk.

04 · Chosen with you

Elbe Canyon

Between Děčín and Hřensko the road runs beside the Elbe at the bottom of a deep sandstone canyon, with cliffs rising on both sides of the river. It is seen from the car on the way, with a pause at the riverside where it is practical to stop.

05 · Confirmed point

Your agreed final address

Return to your hotel, or to another agreed address within Prague, such as a restaurant for dinner. The driver selects the closest practical point for drop-off within local access rules.

  • ✓ Fuel, motorway tolls and parking at the stops.
  • ✓ Route coordination, collection instructions and final pick-up/drop-off confirmation before the service.

Useful tips

A few details that make the ride easier.

  • Bring walking shoes, water and a layer for the top: it is cooler and windier at the arch than in the valley.
  • Since the forest fire of 2022 some paths in the national park have remained closed, among them the Gabriela Trail from Mezní Louka; the route from Tři prameny is the way up. Paths can also close after storms or in winter, so check the park’s notices shortly before your date, and ask us if in doubt.
  • Keep passports, tickets, valuables and essential medication with you rather than in a vehicle left at a stop.
  • Tell us about a folding wheelchair, child seat or mobility needs before confirmation; the right vehicle and access points can then be arranged in advance.
  • Tell us about any reserved entry or tour time when you book, so that the collection time can be set around it.

Ride FAQ

Can I customise the ride?

Yes. You may choose all, some or none of the suggested stops, and request another order. The final plan must remain practical within the confirmed nine-hour service, the driving time and the conditions on the day.

How is the time counted?

Door to door. The nine hours run from collection in Prague to your return and include the drive of about two hours each way; the rest is yours in Bohemian Switzerland.

What happens after I book?

Your payment confirmation is sent immediately. We then send the practical service details, including the assigned driver and vehicle, once the ride has been scheduled. Payment does not by itself mean the operational service is already assigned.

What if the service cannot be provided?

This is exceptional, but if we cannot provide the booked service we will offer a suitable alternative or arrange a full refund.

What is the cancellation policy?

You may cancel at least 24 hours before the confirmed pickup time for a full refund to the original payment method within five business days. If we confirm a driver no-show, we will also issue a full refund within five business days.

Will there be an official tour guide?

No. The driver is local and may offer practical suggestions, but is not a licensed guide and does not provide guided visits inside sights.

Are entry tickets included?

No. The fare covers the vehicle, the driver, fuel, motorway tolls and parking. Tickets and tours at the sights, where they are needed, are bought or reserved separately. If you reserve a timed entry, tell us when booking, so that the day can be shaped around it.

Do I need to be in good physical shape?

Yes, to a reasonable degree. The Pravčická Gate is reached only on foot: about four kilometres there and back on a forest path, uphill on the way there, an hour and a half of walking in all. Walking shoes are needed. If anyone in your party cannot or does not want to make that walk, this ride is not the right choice; one of our other day trips from Prague will suit better.

Can the ride start or end at the airport?

Not this one. The day begins and ends at a hotel or another address within Prague. For an arrival or a departure, ask us for a separate transfer.
